Organic vegetables from Groix: island market gardening expertise
Meet our market gardener, producer of organic beets and red kuri squash
In the heart of the Island of Groix, the fertile soil and mild Atlantic climate provide ideal conditions for market gardening. It is in this privileged setting that Isabelle and Yves Guelou, passionate market gardeners, have been established since 2005.
Coming from a family of organic growers, they carry on a diversified form of market gardening based on mixed farming, ensuring ecological balance and sustainable local production. Their cultivation methods rely on carefully selected heirloom seeds, perfectly suited to the island’s soils, in line with Groix & Nature’s CSR commitments to more responsible food and strong local roots.
Cultivated without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, their beetroots stand out for their tender flesh, natural sweetness and rich aromatic flavour. Their potimarrons, grown on the same land, develop a smooth texture and a delicately sweet taste, characteristic of the Groix terroir.
At Groix & Nature, we enhance these organic vegetables grown on the Island of Groix in two gourmet recipes, which broaden our plant-based range and reflect our desire to promote eating well every day:
the Organic Groix Beetroot and Red Lentil Spread, where beetroot is combined with organic garlic, a touch of French honey and raspberry vinegar for a mild and slightly tangy flavour.
the Organic Groix red kuri squash and chickpea spread, a comforting plant-based creation that showcases the full flavor of island pumpkin with simple, healthy, and accessible recipes.
We also work with Isabelle and Yves for their Groix chilli pepper, which we use in some of our recipes. Discover their work in our article Discovering our chilli pepper producer on the Island of Groix.
